Handy tips and techniques...seams

Does this happen to you?

You have sewn blocks into rows, but when you pin then sew two rows together, you find the block seams have shifted slightly and no longer align. Frustrating!

And I dislike reverse sewing (unpicking) too! This tip should have you in control and keep your blocks aligned.

First - sew block to block in a row with your machine stitch length at 2. Press all these seams open

Then - align your rows block by block, by placing a pin vertically through centres of block-to-block seams. While holding vertical pin, put a pin through both rows each side of actual block seam.
(see drawing).

Remove your vertical pin and do the next block seam, continue to end of row.

Now - sew your two rows together (with your machine stitch length set at 2), and your block alignments should be perfect. Press your row seams open as this helps keep your quilt top flat and even.

Remember, quilting is FUN and not designed to give you a headache!
