For those of
you that like to iron-bond appliqué. My favourite
stitch at the moment, is Blanket-stitch as I get a nice
straight edge to the appliqué shape. Now I have
included a variety of stitches that can be used as well.
If your machine has a more limited range of stitches then
look at the blind-hemming stitch, though used on a different
width and length than usual for actually blind-hemming
a garment.
Always iron-bond strips onto a plain fabrics to try out
your machine stitches and write down the settings of your
stitches on the samples you prefer. Also try the 3-step
stretch stitch (if your machine has this), set on a shorter
length, perhaps 2?
You need to be able to sew evenly along the edge of your
appliqué for this one, but it can be very effective
when done using a variegated thread.
REMEMBER do not adjust your bobbin tension, unless you
are expert at re-setting it for straight sewing!
The feather-stitch is great when stitching but-joined
appliqué as both get stitched at once.
If you have a Bernina machine with a hole in the stalk of the bobbin holder; put your thread through this hole so it will keep the bobbin thread flat and allow your top thread to round slightly when stitching. This makes a greater difference than you may think.
You can decreased the top tension to stop the
bobbin thread from showing on the top of your work.
I use a medium grey thread on my bobbin at all times and
my fancy threads on top. So, have fun with your machine
and get the best out of it! |
