Lectern Fall

Size: width: 50cm x length: 85cm.

Commissioned for the Auckland Cathedral at Parnell. Adapted from the artwork of Penny Otter.

Spectrum Fabrics, Kerikeri supplied the hand-dyed silk and cotton fabric of Mieke Apps.

This was a most enjoyable piece to make, and the first time I have machine embroidered such large areas on a piece of work.

Aye, eye Auckland

Size: 104cm x 103cm. (At the longest points.)

Entered into the Auckland Patchworkers and Quilters Guild, 'Challenge 2000' competition.

Received 'Best of Show'

This competition was run in conjunction with 'The America's Cup yacht races, which I am proud to say, New Zealand won on their yacht painted black. I also used black for my yacht.

Koru II - Chakra Harmony

Size: 40cm x 40cm (Miniature quilt.)

Using a Maori traditional design, the koru, I layered the colours to reflex the seven energy centres of our chakra. I decided that this little quilt took as long to make as a larger wall quilt would have!

Autumn Waves (From my 'Waves' series.)

Size: 111cm x 111cm

Inspired by a walk with my then 2-year-old grandson, on a sunny but windy autumn day.
'Look, Nanny trees wave hello me.' Aren't grandchildren so cute!

This quilt received an 'Award of Distinction' in 'The 6th Quilt Nihon Exhibition 2000' Japan.

Stargate (named well before the TV series!)

Size: 125cm x 125cm.

Although this quilt was made many years ago, I still like it. It now serves as an example for my class, 'Colouring-in with Pattern and Fabric'. The methods taught in this workshop are how I still create my quilts.

Antipodean Solstice

A finalist in the Quilters Newsletter Magazine 'Artistic Expressions'. Exhibited in Lyon France, where it received an 'Judges Award'. My salute to my favourite artist, Kandinsky.

Family Portrait (My first 'greenie' quilt.)

Size: 172cm x 172cm

This quilt was my way of saying that all on Earth is made from the same energy source, so, it is human kinds best interest to clean our act up!

A finalist in 'The 5th Quilt Nihon Exhibition 1998' in Japan. Commercial and computer printed fabrics, appliquéd with simple machine embroidery. The back shows another quilt with animals not represented on the front.

Auckland, my Pacific Patch

Size: 93cm x 80cm

This is my map of Auckland City, complete with a square Rangitoto Island, one of the many
extinct volcanoes of our city.

Auckland is called the 'City of Sails'. Many are very keen on boating and other water sports and our beautiful harbour gives us a wonderful playground.
